Change your PH, Change your health

Yes I know, none of us wants to go back to chemistry class, certainly not a crowd's favorite. I promise to keep it simple, but please stay with me and keep reading, there is a couple of really helpful things in these lines.

So down to business, what does PH mean? PH is short for Potential Hydrogen. Which really means, the amount of oxygen present. The normal PH scale is 0-14 with 7 being considered neutral. Pure water is neutral. Things with a PH lower than 7 are considered acidic, and things with a pH higher than 7 are alkaline (or basic). Now here’s the interesting fact. Did you know that disease cannot survive in an alkaline environment? That is right, they live and feed in acidic environments.

Everything we put in our mouth is either acid or alkaline, so we do have control over the PH of our bodies. We are what we eat!!! We should strive to keep ourselves around the 7 mark (7.35 to 7.45 ideally), which is the right PH of the blood. When our PH is lower than 7, or acid, we pick up less oxygen and are more vulnerable to develop diseases.

Poor food choices like processed sugars, carbonated drinks, sport drinks, simple carbs, alcohol, coffee, and too much protein create an acid environment inside our bodies. Besides food, stress is also a condition that can cause our blood to become more acid. We all suffer from it, it seems to be a constant in our lives, but it is bad, very bad for our bodies. So whenever you can, smile real big and take a couple of deep breaths, tell your body you are happy, and guess what, it will believe you!! You will feel the difference.

When our PH is not right, we have poor elimination which creates re-absorption of toxins. This creates a biological paradise for fungi, infection and disease. Disgusting right? Well sadly it doesn’t stop there, these uninvited friends proliferate and continue to create more toxins, meaning, a even more acid environment. And this goes on and grows like a snowball. The higher the toxic load, the more our cells become compromised and the less efficient the body becomes in eliminating toxins and fighting disease.

When our bodies have an acid PH, we have less oxygen in our cells. This causes red cells in our blood die, releasing even more acid, and... yes back to the snowball.

Among the symptoms produced by the lack of oxygen are fatigue, anxiety, lack of energy, insomnia, and strong appetite. Any of these sound familiar? Now the really scary part is, it also creates a better environment for cancer cells to strive, and for infection and inflammatory diseases to develop.

But it’s not all bad news. Certainly, my purpose is not to scare anyone, or to preach about all the bad thing we do to ourselves, but to offer some little tips to alkalize our bodies and revert the balance. Yeah, you speak the lingo now.

Our bodies are always fighting to maintain balance by eliminating toxins. But if the acid levels are too high, the body will not be able to get rid of the excess and must either store it in fat or attack it with calcium from our bones to neutralize it. This acid state of the cells causes inflammation and when the cells are inflamed, the body has a harder time dropping fat and healing.

So I’m hoping by now, we’ve all realized the important roll our body’s PH plays in fighting disease, overcoming illness, and reaching our goal of feeling better and living longer.

Now the good stuff, what can you do to take control over your PH. The best way to alkalize your body is to eat a variety of plenty of fruits, vegetables, nuts and legumes. Think rainbow, the more colors you get, the better!!! But don’t just drink the juice, because all the sugar is in the juice, making it very acid. Eat the raw produces, benefit from all the enzymes and phytonutrients in them. Vegetables, specially, are very alkaline, they will be able to alkalize your pH, and your health will improve.

And yes, you knew it was coming, drinking water, 8 glasses a day is key to maintaining your PH to a normal level.

Now, to rid off the toxins that are already in our bodies, a great way to clean your kidneys is with parsley. Grab a handful of parsley, wash it and cut it, and let it boil in water for 10 minutes. Drain it and put the water in the fridge. Drink a glass of it everyday for a couple of days. You will notice the difference, and your PH will too.

I hope you enjoyed the information, and you can make use of it.

To your health!!!
